Route 66 Road Trip to Santa Fe
September 2025
A 7-day trip exploring the old Route 66 sites coming and going to Santa Fe, NM.
A quick stop at a Filipino Boba place for a snack in Gallup, NM
El Rancho Hotel, Gallup, New Mexico, is a historic hotel built by R.E. “Griff” Griffith, the brother of film director D.W. Griffith. The pair encouraged early film production in the surrounding area and opened in 1937. It is located on old U.S. Route 66 and became the temporary home for many Hollywood movie stars.
Day 2 Gallup, NM to Santa Fe, NM
We arrived in Gallup, NM late afternoon and stopped for a snack at a Filipino Boba store. The name Cha' Aah is the Filipino word for tea. While Cynthia went to a Saturday Mass, I went to explore the historic El Rancho Hotel on Route 66.
Day 3 Gallup, NM to Santa Fe, NM
We started early to avoid the crowds at the Sandia Peak Tramway in Albuquerque, NM. The aerial tramway stretches from the northeast edge of the city to Sandia Peak, on the ridge line of the Sandia Mountains and has the world's third longest single span. It is the longest aerial tram in the Americas. The views are amazing with hiking and dining at the top of the peak at an elevation of 10,300 feet. Later, we drove to Old Town Albuquerque to explore the historical and cultural center of the city.
A fossil from thousands of years ago.
We dined at the Ten 3 Restaurant with incredible views.
